Fine and bright, in the original green cloth-covered, thin card covers/gilt title & ornate gilt pictorial front board. Photo/s on request. Undated. Unrecorded in Westwood & Satchell's 'Bibliotheca Piscatoria', which lists only those works published prior to 1883, but Marston's 1901 Supplement gives: "Simpkin, & Liverpool Printing &c. Co. 1887." No collation is quoted, nor any guess made as to the Author. The copy here offered makes no mention of any Simpkin. The Preface refers to 'Our New Price List for This Season', and a footnote to page 11 records that all of the hooks shown throughout the book are those sold by Messrs. Edmondson, Basnett Street, Liverpool. The final leaf, not mentioned in other references to this work, reads "For all Necessary Materials For Fly Making, as described in this work, and all matters connected with angling, see our new Illustrated Catalogue. Published by Henry Whitty, At Edmundson's Anglers' Dept. 15, Basnett Street, Liverpool - Established 1815". It is perhaps not unreasonable to suppose that Henry Whitty might be considered the Publisher of the book, and indeed might also be its Author. Offered for GBP 595.00 = appr.
