Title: Proceedings of the Huguenot Society of London. Vol II. 1887-1888.
Description: Printed by Spottiswoode and Co., for Huguenot Society of London. 1889. 8vo. Pp.,cxxxiv,625. Plan of French church at Norwich. Brown end papers. Quarter black morocco on dark blue cloth. Gilt on spine. All edges marbled. Light foxing to just 3/4 leaves at either end, else all pages are clean and fresh. Binding is sound. Covers with light bumping to corners, but with no harsh shelf rub evident. Spine worn at hinges, and front cover coming loose, but holding, and end paper not splitting. Surface of spine chipped, gilt OK. With the ARMORIAL book plate of William Collings de Guerin on front paste-down, and with his inscription on the half title, and dated 1889. - .##. - The first 130 or so pages are concerned with the details of meetings, discussions of the papers presented, visits by the members, and with other various matters. The greater part of the book is the "Appendix", with numerous articles and essays. Some of the contents include;- Massacre of St Bartholemew; various articles concerning named families; Huguenots in Scotland, and also in Colchester, Axholme, Norwich, etc; several on Norwich; various "notes and queries". - The family of Guerin are included in a "Births" section, and were evidently settled in Rye. One of the papers is entitled, "Foreign Huguenots in Rye". - .##. -
