He lived in the USA before coming to Britain in 1948 as one of the early black settlers. A selection of his poems, Lucy's Letters, was published in 1975. In 1976 he edited Bluefoot Traveller, published by Limestone Press (reprinted by Harrap, 1981). Awarded a Cecil Day Lewis Fellowship in 1977/78, he worked as writer-in-residence at Vauxhall Manor School. He has a special interest in the cultural background of UK Caribbean pupils and the development of multi-ethnic studies in schools. In 1979 New Beacon Books brought out his collection of poems, Fractured Circles. Beat Bush Fe Partridge is a Westindian roots poem about marriage based on proverbs in dialogue form between two men.
