After the ratification of the Treaty of Paris, Frances Ludlow (afterwards by marriage, Frances Thomas), was born in Rhode Island of parents who had been born respectively in New York and Rhode Island before the treaty, and were therefore British born, but who had since the Treaty continued to reside in the United states, as subjects thereof.The court held that the inhabitants of the United states, at the time of the treaty of 1783, became inhabitants of an independent State, and therefore aliens by British law. 10 pages, printed in double columns.
