Lamb was displeased by his publishers objection to certain passages which might offend the squeamish: he conceded that ‘giant’s vomit’ was unacceptable but claimed that other passages were no worse than some in ‘Tales of Terror’ or ‘Udolpho’ and refused to alter them.
