Title: Afternoon Readings in the Museum, St. Stephen's Green, Dublin
Description: Bell and Daldy, 1933. Hardcover. Hardback. 277pp. This is the second in the series of afternoon lectures in Dublin. The seven lectures include: an extensive opening address putting the lectures in context, Our Architecture by Samuel Ferguson, Two English Essayists - Charles Lamb and Charles Dickens, The Native Literature of India by Captain Meadows Taylor, German Literature at the close of last century and the commencement of the present by John Anster, Victor Hugo as a Poet by Rev Wm Alexander, Chaucer by John O'Hagan. This a fascinating snap shot of intellectual opinion in Dublin in the mid-Victorian period, showing for example how the Georgian architecture of Dublin was regarded at the time, or how Indian literature was viewed in at the height of the British Empire.  Quarter bound in brown cloth with gilt titles to spine. Papers to boards once I think a pale olive or fawn now rather darkened. Rubbed and a little bumped to edges. Binding is sound. Text is clean. Good+, sound copy..
