A rare find, Map of Monastic Ireland. Map in card covers with a 30 page description and index in the back. This map is intended to illustrate the distribution of the sites of religious houses in Ireland from the time of St. Patrick and other early founders, through the medieval period to c.1600. The synod of Rathbreasail, A.D. 1111, has been taken as the starting point of the medieval period, as it was then that the Irish dioceses became properly organised. Early Celtic establishments and cathedrals which appear to have been still in existence then, and for varying periods afterwards, are shown on the map with distinctive symbols and lettering. Very Good. Offered for GBP 50.00 = appr. US$ 81.80 by: Karen Millward - Book number: 002802 | |||
