Gilt-blocked title. Raised bands with blind-tooled double cross-bands. Slightest suggestion only of dust-dulling to the spine bands and panel edges. with some very light surface marks and stains. mainly to back panel. Marginal shadow staining evident to leaves of final register (pp.130-185). Remains particularly well-preserved overall; tight. bright. clean and strong. Lacks title and prelims - commences at p.1. - and final leaves which included a woodcut emblem. Printed in Claude Garamond's 'Grec du roi' type (second size) with decorations and initials designed by Geoffroy Tory. Summary: Eusebius of Caesarea (c. 263-339) wrote the first and most complete history of the Christian church. completed in 324 or 325. Its historical significance. both for Christianity and the western world. derives from the uniqueness of his material.
